Saint-Martin’s local economic motor is tourism. The Grand-Case l’Espérance airport, only airport on the French side of the island, recorded 200,00 or so passengers in 2015. Nevertheless, in that same year, the Saint-Martin airport area had no infrastructure enabling to park or maintain light aviation, despite a growing number of requests from users.

This operation enabled the construction of a 1,850 m² metal-frame warehouse divided into two functional entities:

• a 1,600m² airport maintenance area including a covered parking area, an administrative office area and a technical workshop area;
• a 250m² air freight floor space area enabling to process export, import and transit air freight.

This operation enabled the Grand-Case airport to offer frequent services for private aviation visiting the Saint-Martin area and to develop freight activities on a market with a high demand for European products.

The total amount for this operation is € 1,533,721 and, for this, General Air Services SXM received a subsidy from EFDR for € 800,000.
